Itch-Scratchware is a term for software developed within a limited scope and to perform a specific function, which is only extended, expanded or developed further when a problem is encountered or the initial tasks assigned to the software change.
The name reflects the way in which this software is developed. The Itch is the problem or task which requires a solution, with the Scratch being that solution. The suffix of Ware due to it being software.
Itch-scratchware could be considered an example of extreme programming, in that the software is developed to satisfy the needs which exist at that time, and can be revisited as required when needs dictate.
